Business Benefits’ mission is to provide our clients with cost effective, high quality and comprehensive employee benefit plans and HR services. We work hard to build and maintain long-lasting relationships with our customers, and we are committed to helping businesses with the complexities of health care and HR regulations. Our business model emphasizes quality of service and relationships, not revenue per customer.

History

Matt Hollister became an independent broker in 1999, having left John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company where he was responsible for sales and client management for John Hancock’s New England sales office. As an independent broker, Matt Hollister worked for Special Risk of New England (SRNE), in Danvers, MA. Matt left SRNE in October, 2000 to start Business Benefits, Inc., a full benefit administration provider.

Shortly after the formation of Business Benefits, Inc., Matt changed the name to Hollister Insurance Brokerage, Inc. in order to incorporate brokerage services with benefits administration. Hollister Insurance added to its business by acquiring the brokerage business SRNE in 2008 and J.F. Conlon and Associates in 2015. More recently, in 2018, Hollister acquired Business Benefits Insurance Brokerage, founded by Jim Edholm in 1998. As part of the acquisition, Hollister formally changed its name back to Business Benefits, Inc.

Today, Business Benefits, Inc. has three office locations and works with over 500 employer groups.

Since our founding in 1999, Business Benefits has been dedicated to improving the quality of life in our community both financially and through volunteerism. We value our responsibility as a corporate citizen by sponsoring local programs and community organizations that benefit where we live and work.

Client Profile

Business Benefits works with both long-established benefits and insurance plans, as well as some startups. We work with employers in most industries, including retail, wholesale, non-profit, healthcare, manufacturing, and high-tech, to name a few.  Our minimum size for a new client is 10 enrolled subscribers. Our specialty is working with complex HR and employee benefit issues, including mergers, acquisitions, and startups.

Our brokerage team is constantly evaluating the best and latest trends in employee benefits and HR to ensure that our clients receive timely and relevant advice.   Our use of technology, and knowledge of compliance and available plans and carriers sets us apart from our competition.

Matt Holister

President/CEO
Matt Hollister is the President and CEO of Hollister Insurance.  Matt is active in the community, having served on the Clinton Hospital Foundation, as a Corporator for the Clinton Savings Bank and as a current member of the Concord Rotary club. Prior to launching Hollister, Matt worked in the group insurance division of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. While at John Hancock, Matt was responsible for both in-force client retention and new sales in New England. Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Northeastern University and a Master of Public Health with a Health Policy concentration from the Boston University School of Public Health.

Sylvia Hollister

Vice President of Operations
Since the company’s inception, Sylvia has been the central figure in the business operations and finance.  Sylvia now works out of the “South” office of Hollister in Venice, Florida.
Sylvia enjoys putting the company’s finances to the side at the end of the day and watching wild birds from her lanai.

Terri Caldwell

HR & Benefits Manager
Terri has been in the Human Resource and Employee Benefits field for the past 9 years. She has a strong background in the HR/Benefits area and an understanding of the daily HR related issues companies are faced with, as well as their need for offering an attractive employee benefit package.  Terri is a licensed broker and is working on her HR certificate.  Since joining Hollister Insurance in 2014 Terri has proven to be a trusted resource for clients by managing client and vendor relationships, problem solving and day to day assistance with employee benefit and HR related questions.
Terri enjoys building and maintaining relationships with clients and feeling part of their team.

Norma Kelley

Benefits Assistant
Norma Kelley is the Benefits Assistant in Concord, MA.  Norma joined Hollister in 2016 and assists our brokerage and HR staff with many projects including ERISA plan documents and enrollment administration.
Norma enjoys forming relationships with customers and building trust with HR managers and other contacts.

Michelle Simpson

Account Executive
Michelle Simpson is an Account Executive at Hollister in the Amherst, MA office.  Michelle joined the company in 2014 and was promoted in 2017 to her current position.  Michelle is active with the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Ambassador’s committee. Prior to joining the company Michelle worked for Loring, Wolcott and Coolidge Trust Company in Boston.
Michelle enjoys working with people, helping them by giving them tools and education so employees are more fulfilled and owners can enjoy the peace of mind that they are doing their best for their employees.

Sarah Walker

Senior Account Executive
Sarah has more than 10 years of experience in the insurance industry and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  Prior to joining Hollister she worked as a Client Analyst at MDS Insurance Services and as a Sales Executive at Fallon Health.  In addition to being a trusted benefits adviser Sarah is a licensed massage therapist.
Sarah enjoys helping regular people understand the complex parts of health insurance and being creative to solve client’s needs.

Victor Aurthur Koivumaki, III

In Memoriam
Vic joined Hollister in 2004 as was one of the longest serving employees when he passed away on May 2nd, 2016 after a 2 year long battle with cancer. We will always remember Vic for his intelligence and wit. He will be truly missed, but in our hearts forever.
